Matina began her journey in dance at the age of two, by enrolling in her first dance class. She continued to dance at various studios being fortunate enough to study the ballet techniques of Cecchetti, R.A.D and Vaganova. Matina was also involved in competitive dance for seven years starting at the age of eight. She has also studied, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical and acro. Matina graduated with Honours from the Regional Arts Program in Dance from Mayfield Secondary School in 2013. During this time she was privileged enough to have travelled to California for workshops at the Millennium Dance Complex and the EDGE Performing Center, as well as performing at Disneyland. In New York City she also attended workshops at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Peridance Capezio Center. Matina’s other interests include theatre having recently attended and completed classes at Second City in Stagecraft and On Camera. Matina began assisting dance classes at the age of 13. She enjoys sharing her learning experiences with young dancers and truly enjoys seeing them grow in their dance technique. Additionally, having taken a year off after high school, she assisted in a grade one/two split class furthering her experience with young children. Matina recently graduated from York University with a BFA and she is now enrolled in the Education program. Although she is unsure what her future holds, she is certain dance will be a part of it.
